“Man trying to disarm theft suspect stabbed at Glendale mall”
“A 27-year-old man was stabbed at a Glendale mall Wednesday after he tried to intervene in a fight between two theft suspects and three loss-prevention personnel, police said.
Sgt. Jim Toomey said Anthony Ely of Glendale was seriously injured but was expected to live.
The incident began about 7:45 p.m., when two men attempted to steal five boxes of shoes from the Mervyn’s store at Arrowhead Towne Center, Toomey said. Three Mervyn’s staffers confronted the suspects and a fight ensued.
Police reported that one of the suspects pulled out a knife, and Ely attempted to disarm him. The suspect stabbed Ely in the torso. The suspects then ran to a four-door Chevrolet HHR waiting outside and fled.
